Eines der wenigen Spiele, die das Mega CD auch grafisch ausnutzen. Leider überzeugt das Fahrgefühl nicht auf ganzer Linie.

In the early nineties, the Jaguar XJ220 was the fastest serial-produced car ever. Core Design acquired the right to build a game around it, in a move to counter Gremlin's immensely successful Lotus series. Just like Lotus, Jaguar XJ200 is a view from behind racer. There are 32 tracks all over the world, with varying road conditions and animated weather conditions such as rain and fog in England, snow in Switzerland, and tumbleweed crossing the street in Egypt. You race your Jaguar in a constructor grand prix, with opponents running for Porsche, Ferrari and other famous makers. Between races, you must mend the damage your car has sustained, which eats up your prize money. Background music is selected through a dashboard CD player, which also features some rather uninspiring radio stations. The game can also be played in a two-player split-screen mode and features a track editor for when you tire of the built-in courses. www.Mobygames.com
The best racing game for the Mega-CD - OK, so there are only two, but this one is a corker. Take the Jaguar XJ220 around the world in a series of challenging races. Game modes include the Grand Prix (a pre-set series of races) and World Tour (player's choice of the order of races), as well as a free practice run which proves invaluable as there is no min-map on the race screen. This game is tough - don't be surprised to qualify at the back of the grid and have to fight your way through the pack each time. You don't have to win or even achieve a podium place to progress, but you do have to win enough money to repair the car - and even if you don't hit anything, the tyres, brakes and mechanics cost more than enough to mean you really do have to make a top 3 place each time to survive for long. A fully functional track editor is included, though you will have to create a track for each of the 16 countries to race them properly, otherwise you'll crash to a blank screen. The graphics are good, although the scenery is a little flat, and a choice of CD tunes before each race should keep you entertained. Only the spot effects spoil the show - engines sound whiny and collisions are met with a distant thud rather than a meaty crunch, but they're not bad enough to spoil the game as a whole. If you don't mind a stiff challenge, this one should last you a long time. Jaguar XJ220 only carries its bar code on the spine card, not on the rear inlay. www.sega-mega-cd-library.co.uk
